the Ivy Bush Website

I designed and built The Ivy Bush Inn website completely from scratch, starting with an initial meeting to understand what they wanted the site to achieve and how they see the venue. From there, I handled everything myself – design, structure, content layout and the full WordPress build.

Challenges & Objectives

/ Project Overview

The aim was to create something that genuinely reflects the venue while also being practical. The site showcases what’s happening at the pub, highlights events, and gives both new visitors and regulars an easy way to stay up to date. Once the first version was ready, we made a few tweaks based on feedback from the manager before pushing it live.

/ Challenges

One of the biggest challenges was making sure the website reflected the real vibe of the venue without overcomplicating it. The Ivy Bush has a strong local identity, so the site needed to feel welcoming and familiar rather than overly polished or corporate.

Another focus was making sure information stays clear and accessible, particularly around events and what’s happening at the pub, so the site is genuinely useful rather than just a digital brochure.

/ Objectives

My main objective was to create a website that represents the venue properly while also being functional for day-to-day use.
– Showcasing what The Ivy Bush is about and what happens there
– Keeping events and updates easy to find
– Making it useful for both regular locals and new visitors
– Ensuring the design reflects the venue’s personality and atmosphere
Overall, the goal was a site that feels authentic to the pub while still modern, clear and easy to use.

Creative
process

After an initial meeting with the team, I moved straight into designing a concept based on their feedback and my understanding of the venue. Once the manager was happy with the direction, I built the full site in WordPress, handling everything from layout and visuals to functionality.

The process was fairly collaborative but efficient – initial discussion, design draft, a few refinements, then launch. I focused on keeping the build clean, responsive and easy to maintain so it continues to work well long term.
